In 1856, Mathew Brady produced the very first modern-day advertisement when he put an advertisement in the New York City Herald paper offering to create "pictures, ambrotypes, and daguerreotypes." His advertisements were the very first whose typeface and also fonts stood out from the text of the publication and from that of other ads.
